So, I started playing ETQW a lot more lately and have gotten to work on a map as well. I'll probably have no hair and be a raging alcoholic by time it's finished, but it will get done. I think I'm almost past all the hard stuff, which for me is the scripting and map definitions. After that, I can start to actually enjoy myself again and work on the actual design part.

The map so far. This was when I was trying to figure out the MCP deployment phase. Finally got past this part, but I'm stuck again, lol. Not much to see though.

So far, I'm loving the much improved GUI and "personal best" stats in 1.4, although the latter doesn't seem to be functioning very well atm. Hopefully they get that fixed along with the new Hot Server window, which usually just shows me empty servers, lol.

The MCP escorts are easier....uhm...much much easier now? Like probably too easy? The adjusted hitbox for the head seems to have helped somewhat, although certain people pretty much still own me 100% of the time in firefights. But I'm definitely not getting headshotted by snipers like I used to be and that is a great improvement in itself.

I noticed that it's easier to lock onto the Icarus riders with the rocket launcher now also? Or is it just me? They don't seem to be nearly annoying as they used to be.

Wish I could :(

The lack of GOOD/ACCURATE documentation and support from Splash Damage is disappointing though. The tutorials and maps they release for the SDK aren't even playable. The tutorials lack documentation in VERY key areas and have flat out wrong or outdated information scattered throughout them. Unless they have something up their sleeves, I don't see the ETQW mapping scene taking off to be honest.

I like to think I'm a halfway smart person, but I've been stuck for 4 days on my map just trying to get the MCP objective to complete. I have a 2 page thread, with like 40 replies from half a dozen other people having the same issues with the MCP objective, and not one SD developer has bothered to help.

Nice.

Im certainly interested in mapping for QW as well, it just seems like waaaaaay too much technical stuff.  I had a ton of probs just scripting my ET map, scripting a ETQW map would probably kill me.

Your map looks nice so far - I hope you finish it, cuz we could certainly use a few more maps in rotations.

I finally got the MCP part figured out. It was something stupid. I knew it would be :( The rest was pretty easy, so now it's just onto the actual design stuff, which I've barely touched on. It is kind of overwhelming, but I'm just working on it in bits and pieces. Can't really jam through this stuff like Q3 or you find yourself redoing tons of stuff if you want to go back and make some changes.

And I have absolutely NO idea how to get bots working in this thing, lol. The script files are absolutely loaded with bot routines, but I wouldn't even know where to begin ;/ The sample map doesn't touch bots. Not sure there is any real info out there on it either. Like I said..SD documentation kinda sucks. It's like they want it to go away.

Maybe they are working on a commercial map pack that they want to sell! LOL
