I'm playing around with some textures (TGA) I created and I'm trying to figure out how to get them to show up in the editor? Also, do I need to create a .dds file?

Im trying to figure this out as well, if anyone knows, pls post. If I find out, ill let you know 3NF.

I know you add the textures to the q4base/textures/yourtexturedir directory, but I believe you also need to add them to some sort of shaderlist or they will not show up in the editor. Ill poke around a bit and see if I can figure out how to do this.

For using your own custom textures: (assumption: you already have the diffuse, specular, and normal map stuff all figured out.)

Example below, replace q4hexdm1 with your mapname

place the tgas in /q4base/textures/q4hexdm1

Create a /q4base/materials/q4hexdm1.mtr file with notepad

For EACH texture, use the following snippet of code in the mtr file (edit appropriately for your folder structure)

textures/q4hexdm1/GoldPlate01256
{
qer_editorimage textures/q4hexdm1/GoldPlate01256_d.tga // custom DOOMEdit material preview image
diffusemap textures/q4hexdm1/GoldPlate01256_d.tga // color and value information for the material
specularmap textures/q4hexdm1/GoldPlate01256_s.tga // specular highlights
bumpmap textures/q4hexdm1/GoldPlate01256_local.tga // normalmap for bumpmapped appearance
}

THEN open the editor and browse through the "MEDIA" tab on texture/console/entity window and see your new folder q4hexdm1. Your texture is now usable.

Cheers!

Thanks, I'll give that a try - and no, I haven't figured out the diffuse, specular, and normal thing yet - but I'm hoping I will soon.

Feel free to enlighten me :)

All enlightenment on this topic (and others) can be found at http://d3w.org

Finko has some good links in the sticky on D3 editing. (Q4 editing is the same)

Thanks - the doom site has some good stuff (at least something that I was looking for).

I found this to be pretty useful ...
