On the heels of the DOOM4 announcement, I've started working on my D3 Single Player map once again. The timing seemed appropriate and I can also apply a lot of the lessons I've learned with Q4/ETQW mapping at this point to improve on it.

This has been about 90% done for a very long time, so it would be a shame to not wrap it up. It has been through 1 beta test. Hopefully, in about a week or less, I'll release Beta 2. That being said, if anyone is interested in giving it a whirl when beta2 is ready, then get your D3 installed :)

Some shots of the map as it stands:

Screenshots look sick! I'll definitely have to load up D3 again...

I downloaded a Fileplanet D3 Map pack and was blown away by the first map I played. Def worth the time if you guys are ever in the mood for some solid SP gaming.

Filename on FP was D3MapPack_FilePlanet.exe

I played the map_thomasc one. Seriously, it's on par with iD's stuff and in some places, it's better. Had a cool ending too, hehe. Not sure if the rest of the maps were as good, but I'm gonna give them a try soon.

I'll definitely give it a run-through.  I just played through both D3 and ROE again back in March. 8)

It's coming. Hard to squeeze work in on it with my etqw mapping, lotro and wow addictions, lol.

Here is BETA 2. I have quite a lot to do yet, but this is playable. I've run through it so many times, I'm not sure if it's fun anymore ;)

Some notes:
GUI's on the lifts are place holders. I think that is obvious.
There is a 'hitch' when some of the flying monsters spawn in. I can't seem to nail this down. Hopefully, I'll figure it out by final release.
Some brush work and textures have z-fighting. Still working through all that.
I still have a lot of tweaking to do with lighting and monster clip brushes.
Emails in the PDA's are incomplete, but they do have the code for the one locker, which is functional. So, be sure to read the PDAs that you pick up for the code.

Changes since BETA 1:
Mostly performance changes with lighting, monster clipping and model memory.
Removed some monsters that simply weren't working well where they were placed.
Tweaked some sound volumes.
Redesigned the first objective area to actually look like a power substation  and not some random building.
Added more architecture to 2nd objective area.
Removed the awful looking sci-fi lights that I made, haha.

I'd write out the to-do list, but it's kinda long...

Playtime will probably be around 20 minutes. Depending on how much you mess around.

Some new screenies:

Map Download. Unzip the pk4 to your doom3/base/ directory.

Drop down the console (ctrl + alt + ~)
/map finkosp1_beta2

or

/devmap finkosp1_beta2

The instructions said to type "/map finkosp1_beta2" into the console I had to add the .map extension to get it to load.

I ran out of health and didn't beat the final stage but it was fun. Once I get some food in the belly I'll go again. Wish I would have saved. :(
