Post subject:  New vid card

Darn, my 5950U is melting. It has served me well, but the fan died some time ago, and it is super hot (86 deg CELCIUS) just sitting idle. I can't even load up the games, it goes into the thermal protection mode and basically shuts down. I put a case fan in there blowing on it, but now its artifacting even with youtube videos, probably not long for this world. Even with the case fan blowing on it, you cannot even touch the heatsinks, too damn hot.

My rig is AGP, and I've no reason at this point to buy a whole new machine, its still totally sufficient: (xeon 2.8, 1.5G RAM, U160 scsi on the motherboard)

So I ebayed the 7800GS (AGP) I'll provide full report after it arrives.

This thing had monster copper heatsinks on both sides, here's a pic

The 7800GS AGP (not including the gainward 7800+GS which is basically a 7900GT) is roughly the same speed as the 7600GT AGP just in case anyone was wondering.

bare in mind those are mostly PCI-e specs, the AGP specs can be different to the same named PCI-e card.
