|Post subject:||HDTV Format|
I see some stuff on Usenet thats in HDTV format. Like 14gigs at 1080i, but I haven't bothered to d/l any of it since I don't know what I'm dealing with here. What file type am I going to be getting? Is it only viewable on my PC? Or can I somehow pipe it to my HDTV set?

Not really sure of the details as I've not aquired any HDTV from usenet/p2p... however I know mkv format is quite common:
Quite likely its a mix of DVD ISOs, XViD AVI files, MKV, WMV9/10 and various flavors of MPEG2 wrappers.
Most HDTV content uses either MPEG2/4 or H263/264 compression formats so you can play it with something like VLC (video lan client) fine - audio is main PCM uncompressed (but thats huge), DTS, some flavor of dolby or AC3... while a lot of players will handle this fine - the wrapper might cause more issues, if its avi, bin/iso or mpeg then your laughing.

I'm not gonna bother though. Verizon's NG retention is garbage these days and my STUNNING 720/90 connection with them doesn't help much on 14 gigs of data.
