Anyone else interested in this game?
http://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption/

It's made by Rockstar, the people who make the Grand Theft Auto series. I guess the simplist way to think about it is, Grand Theft Auto based in the old wild west, but it's really much more then that. This game looks fantastic, the single player campaign alone looks like it could be 100's of hours, then add on top of that some really intuitive multiplayer gameplay, and this game might be the new evercrack! I personally can't wait. Check out all the videos and screenshots of this one. It's only coming out on PS3 and Xbox though...for now at least. This is a first day purchase for me.

I tried to get a copy from walmart today, no dice :(

I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow...

There are already a lot of good reviews of the game out there. IGN gave it a 9.7 / 10

I haven't used it yet, but I didn't know how to use it either! I have only played about an hour of single player and a couple hours of multi-player. The game is AWESOME! The graphics are fantastic, the world really feels "alive".

howdy =)

anyone get further into the game?  i spent an inordinate amount of time hunting and just riding around looking at the scenery in the first two 'acts' - and lost WAY too many horses to those $*##@^% cougars. =(

finally made into the 'third act' and immediately lost my horse to a bear.  =(

anyway: this game is pretty fun, i think.  it can be mind-numbingly tedious at times, but the 'oh wow!' and 'holé molé!' moments make up for it.  some of the areas are amazing - parts of the 'second act's' area are almost photo-realistic.  they look so much like some areas in the southwest that i almost 'feel at home'.  =)

people have complained about having to travel 'so far' riding their horse to get to places - particularly in the 'second act', but the distance is actually kinda sorta true to life: things are farther apart in the west and even traveling 75+ mph it still takes longer than you might wish to get to a destination.  and like the game, in many areas nothing but juniper/scrub trees/scorpions/snakes populate the 'space' between towns/cities, etc.  sounds really stupid when i say it, but there it is.

to make a confession that will probably make me look stupid: i have never really enjoyed most rockstar games.  i just could not 'get into' gta3 or its expansions;  have had gta4 for months and months but have never been interested in playing it.  after thinking about it, i think my apathy [dislike is too strong a word] towards the games have to do with the character you play in them.  i just have never been able to 'connect' with my character/avatar/street thug/huge jerk and that kills the suspension of disbelief before it can even take hold.

maybe i am broken.  =(

i have, however, been able to connect with my character in 'grand theft equus' and have really had a blast.  have played as a 'goody-two-shoes' since i cannot seem to play as a 'bad seed' character - in this or any game: i feel super guilty when i am mean to npcs.  =(

have also found a lot of the gameplay strongly reminds me of 'fable 2'.  saying that might get some people riled up, but i really, really liked fable 2 so i see the comparison as a compliment - but i know there are people who hated fable 2, so i guess it comes down to 'opinions are like...'  i am certain you know how that saying goes.  =)

so my opinion: play this game!

=)

Hey nostril, I agree with pretty much everything you had to say. I haven't even gotten in to the second act though, I'm still spending so much time just running around shooting stuff and completing deeds and such. I'm barely in to the main quest line, but I like it so far.

I liked the GTA series of games, but I think I like Red Dead Redemption even better. The atmosphere, the characters, the beautiful environments, it's all really great. I didn't play Fable 2 (I don't have an xbox 360), so I can't comment on that, but I know what you mean when it comes to playing the good guy/bad guy roles. I have a hard time playing the bad guy too, but I guess that's just my nature.

Anyway, thanks for the review.
