Well, I just finished week one of my chemo and radiation, and they are letting me have the weekend off.

So far, the chemo is going well - mild nausea that is being controlled by three medications that I take on a daily basis.

The radiation is another story, however. The effects seem to be a little worse every day, with extreme fatigue that makes me feel like expending the least little effort is more than I can bear to do. I can honestly say that I have never felt this way in my life.

Skraggy, if this is what you went through with the radiation treatments on your thyroid, I can only say that you are a much better, stronger guy than I. (of course you are about 20 years younger than me).

My thanks go out to all of you who have answered this post with your words of encouragement. It really has made a difference in my outlook on this.

I am going to take it one day at a time, and beat this thing!!

Nah, not stronger...I only had one major dose, where you are getting multiple large doses. I am sure what you are going through is much worse than what I went through. My last dose pretty much just laid me out for about 3 days. Then I felt fine after those few days.

Feel free to call me anytime you want or need to talk. I am always here to help if you need it.
I will call you a little later today, I have a few things going on at the house today that I need to get done.

You will be alright and things will get wonderful again, you just have to slog thru this part as best you can.  Keep thinking about breaking thru to the other side.  Believing in the method and getting all the rest you possibly can get will make the difference.

Downloaded yet another e-book for $20.00 on the vegan diet ulcerative colitis cure.  He say I should take a 3 months sabbatical.  Shit a couple weeks would do wonders.  But I stopped lifting and just laid around all weekend and my neck and gut are noticeably better and my sax-drive is zooming despite lots of cerveza.

Rest all you can brother.

Grab it by the horns brothers. I have been away from a lot of things including here. Makes it harder too when I don't have a PC too. I will check more frequently to follow up. Makes sure to update us.
Talk to you soon.

Well, I just finished up week 2, and I was wrong about the radiation, apparently.

Even though it tires me out a little, and I get a dose 5 days a week, apparently what was really knocking me out for the past two weeks was the chemo.

I actually feel almost normal, now that the effects of the chemo are being flushed from my body.

The next hurdle will be chemo round two (of three).

This next round is scheduled for 10/20, 10/21, and 10/22.

I'll take it one day at a time, and try to maintain my weight ---
I am down to 150 now from 175, due to appetite loss and loss of any abilility to taste foods because of the radiation effects.

Next on the agenda will be a visit to the resident nutrician specialist  for some pointers on what to eat to keep the pounds on.

Keep going Spyder. You will pull through.

Edit: by the way after all radiation/chemical therapy you will look pretty much like my avatar.
Which I think is way cool.  :)

Hamdogs are a safe bet for packing on pounds:

Keep fighting, Spyder.    Kick it's ass.  You have to.  Oh, and another vote for Stormshadow's advised diet.  Follow it up with two quarts of Cookies n Cream, and you're good to go.

Well, I finished round two of my chemo therapy last tuesday, wednesday, and thursday.
It is still making me feel very tired , weak and foggy, and probably will for another two weeks or so.

But so far the anti nausea drugs are doing a good job, so that is a plus.

I only have 10 more radiation treatments to go over the next two weeks, then three more chemo days, so the end of the treatment cycle is getting closer.

So, in about six more weeks, after the last effects of the chemo are gone, I am hoping to feel a lot better.

Again, thanks to all of you who have posted here - it really has given me a lift to hear from you.

Hey SPYDER, I'm really sorry to hear about your battle with cancer. It's good to see that you are in good spirits though, I think that's just as important as any treatments. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you. Please keep us posted!
